Information security company promotes new ‘Tongueprinting’ technology

The best April Fools' pranks are silly, harmless jokes that seem just plausible enough to trick those among us who are less skeptical (and less aware of the date).

One of 2018’s stranger jokes comes from the information security group Pindrop, which is known for its fraud-prevention technology. Pindrop released a video promoting it’s ‘Tongueprinting Technology,’ which claims to allow you to unlock your phone by licking it.

According to the video description:

Tongueprinting technology analyzes thousands of tiny bumps called papillae, as well as factors such as shape, size, and temperature to accurately identify yourself by licking your phone. This technology will be the mouthpiece of Pindrop’s latest authentication and anti-fraud solutions.
Tongueprinting technology will be available for pre-order on April 1st. Contact aprilfools@pindrop.com to schedule a demo.

For those who did not catch on, the video ends with the following message:

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS’ DAY FROM YOUR FRIENDS AT PINDROP
(Our lawyers made us put that in there so you don’t lick your phone)
