"If a dog can ever be nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor of the Year, my vote is for Rex!"

MEGAN LEAVEY is an extraordinary and powerful motion picture. The title is the actual name of a female Marine, based on a true story. This is one movie that should be at the top of your list. With all the summer blockbusters coming to town, I am afraid that this gem may come and go and disappear. With a movie like MEGAN LEAVEY, you should bring your children with you, then be sure to have a follow-up discussion talking about the role of our active duty soldiers and our returning veterans. Also, spend time explaining the meaning of the bond of friendship. Bottom line: our actions have consequences.

We don't like to be reminded that war is hell. We understand that the horror of war can bring Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I am willing to bet that you and your children probably don't realize that our bomb-sniffing dogs such as Rex also come home with psychological damage.

MEGAN LEAVEY is an intense and passionate film. The brief battle scenes will get your adrenaline going. And there is one violent scene that is the reason for the "13" that follows the PG rating.

The bottom line, however, is that this is really a story about relationships. Relationships beginning with ourselves, our parents, our friends, and our lovers.

The pacing of the story is due to strong direction, a solid screenplay, and outstanding editing. The musical score enhances the emotions we feel. And I think you will go home satisfied with the true ending.

I divide this film into three parts: overcoming my past, finding my place, and discovering what is important.

Kate Mara plays Megan. Edie Falco plays her mother and Bradley Whitford plays her father. The rapper known as Common plays Megan's superior. Tom Felton plays her close friend, while Ramon Rodriguez plays her love interest. The film is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite. She was responsible for the outstanding 2013 documentary, BLACKFISH.

There is no weekend this summer quite like next weekend. Can there be two films so extremely different from each other? Be sure to read my reviews of ALL EYEZ ON ME and CARS 3.

ALL EYEZ ON ME is a biopic about the life and death of Tupac Shakur. The film is directed by Benny Boom and stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Shakur. The film opens in Las Vegas on what would have been his 46th birthday. Shakur was gunned down in 1996 on Flamingo Road near Koval Lane.

CARS 3 is the Disney/Pixar 3D computer animated IMAX film. Can't wait to see Lightning McQueen again as we return to Radiator Springs.
