FILL THE BUS | Donate supplies needed to benefit Communities in Schools

Fill the Bus (KSNV file)

Communities In Schools (CIS) of Nevada is once again inviting the Las Vegas community to help them collect school supplies for local students at their fifth annual Fill The Bus back-to-school supply drive on Friday, Aug. 4, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. Donations can be dropped off, or purchased for donation, at the Sam’s Club located in The Arroyo Market Square.

Over the course of two days at South Rainbow and the 215, CIS of Nevada, along with partners KSNV News 3, Komp 92.3, 97.1 The Point, Super Shuttle, Nevada State Bank, Southwest Gas and Sam’s Club, will collect school supplies and uniforms for over 51,000 students in the 47 low-income K-12 Clark County schools served by the organization. Last year, corporate and public donations filled nine Super Shuttle busses with $180,000 worth of supplies.

CIS of Nevada is looking for traditional school supplies as well as uniform clothing items.

Supplies needed include:

  • Backpacks for all ages
  • One- and two-inch binders
  • College- and wide-ruled notebooks
  • Pocket folders
  • Markers, crayons
  • Mechanical pencils
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Erasers
  • Glue
  • Highlighters
  • Colored pencils

Uniform pieces like navy and white polo shirts and khaki and navy slacks for elementary and middle school age children are needed, as well as gift cards to locations where uniforms can be purchased. CIS of Nevada students have more than enough composition notebooks and wide- and college-ruled paper to last throughout the school year.

“Something as simple as having the right clothes to wear, or proper supplies, can be enough to keep a student in school.” said CIS of Nevada CEO Dr. Tiffany Tyler. “We’re thrilled to build on the momentum this event has created over the years, and we’re so thankful for our community – corporate and individual – for showing up in droves to help our local students.”

This year’s partners include:
