Bryan Clay defense rests without calling witnesses; closing arguments to begin Tuesday
LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) —
After nearly three weeks on trial, the defense team for double murder suspect Bryan Clay rested Monday afternoon without calling a single witness.
Closing arguments are set to begin Tuesday for Clay, suspected in the sexual assault and deaths of Yadira Martinez and her 10-year-old daughter, Karla, in April 2012.
“Your attorney can not make you testify, and state cannot call you as a witness, you understand that?” asked Judge Douglas Herndon to the defendant.
“Yes,” Clay responded.
The defense is not required to present any evidence.
If convicted, prosecutors will seek the death penalty. Clay said to police in 2012 that he did not remember what happened.
