Suspect arrested in murder of 21-year-old woman near Buffalo and Russell

Officers have arrested a suspect in the murder of a woman in the southwest valley.

The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 21-year-old Makayla Rhiner of Las Vegas. Her official cause of death was multiple stab and incised wounds and the manner was ruled a homicide.

Through the course of this investigation, detectives identified 33-year-old Brandon Hanson as a suspect in this case.

Earlier in the year, Hanson was reported to have been in a dating relationship with the victim.

On August 5, 2017, Hanson was located and interviewed. As a result of the investigation, Hanson was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces one count of murder.

Around 7:17 p.m. on Thursday, Rhiner's body was found in a detached garage in the San Tropez Apartment Complex in the in the 8000 block of W. Russell Road near S. Buffalo Drive.

Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department say the body was discovered by another resident going to their car.

Investigators say the woman was last seen alive at 5:30 p.m. inside the apartment complex office. They say she was attacked inside the garage and suffered head trauma and was possibly beaten.
