A 5-year-old boy is recovering after police say he shot himself in the finger Sunday morning at a residence in the northeast Las Vegas valley.

The shooting occurred around 9:20 a.m. on the 4700 block of Luxor Way, near East Cheyenne Avenue and North Nellis Boulevard, according to Lt. Grant Rogers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The boy was taken to UMC Pediatrics. Investigators say he might lose a portion of the finger.
