Beltway Burglar: Chilling home security video shows crook with gun in the firing position
LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) —
Frightening home security video shows a burglar armed with a gun in the firing position.
Police say he’s breaking into homes and apartments in the southwest valley.
According to investigators, the burglaries are taking place near the Flamingo and South Durango exits off the 215.
The man may be responsible for break-ins at 20 homes. Police hope someone recognizes him and calls the cops before he strikes again.
The crimes appear to be random and it’s not just happening in one specific neighborhood.
In one chilling home security video, you can see the crook in gloves with a flashlight in one hand and a gun in the other hand.
It looks like the thief is in a bedroom. It doesn't appear that anyone is home, but he walks right by the camera. The video is unsettling, even for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officer Larry Hadfield.
"I don’t think there’s anything worse than waking up and meeting that type of person in your house, someone who is armed and could potentially be very aggressive with you. If you were to put up any type of resistance that person could kill you,” said Hadfield.
The crook may not be acting alone. Police believe he may be working as part of a team.
As the burglaries mount, Hadfield worries, so will the violence.
"It’s always concerning when you have a group of criminals working together, basically, you may have a crew working a specific area,” explained Hadfield. "More often than not, these individuals get a little more aggressive as they go on and as they gain confidence committing these crimes and not getting caught, you could see potential violence in the future.”
If you recognize the man in the video, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555. You can remain anonymous.
