While buying recreational marijuana legally enters its second day in Nevada, some customers say it will still need getting used to.

“It’s very weird,” said Natalie Abraham, a customer at The Source. “I'm nervous, and I don’t even know why.”

Andrew Jolley, owner of The Source, says nervousness is a familiar emotion because of the stigma attached to the drug.

“This is a product that’s been a part of our community for a very long time — but in an underground way,” he said.

While he doesn’t have numbers yet, Jolley says hundreds of customers have purchased cannabis since doors officially opened just after midnight Saturday — many of them first timers.

“This is now something that you can walk in and buy like Walgreens or CVS or the convenience store,” Jolley said. “And up until this point, many people have felt like criminals. They’ve been treated like criminals or labeled as criminals,”

Jolley adds that 20 percent to 30 percent of his customers were from out of state.
