Eighth grader's heartfelt letter wins teachers a big surprise

Johnson Junior High School teachers got a big surprise on Wednesday thanks to a letter one eighth grade student wrote about her favorite teacher.

Eighth grader Caitlyn Gaddi and her teacher Robert Cuccurullo say they were confused Wednesday morning when they were both called to come to the school's teachers’ lounge.

When they walked in, both of their faces lit up, as they learned Gaddi wrote the winning letter for Walker Furniture's 17th annual teacher appreciation program.

Gaddi's winning letter means brand new pieces for the teachers’ lounge that were delivered Wednesday morning.

In her letter, Gaddi praised Cuccurullo’s teaching style and the way he relates to the students. It’s something she says more students should take the time to appreciate.

"I think it's always important to think about why our teachers do what they do for you and how much they care about you instead of they are just doing this for their job," said Gaddi.

"I feel awesome. I was just blown away, they wrote about 25 letters I got and they were all towards me. The English department gave them to me and it actually made my day," said Cuccurullo.

In addition to the new teachers' lounge, Gaddi will receive $100 cash, Cuccurullo will receive a $150 Walker Furniture gift certificate, and their class will be given a pizza party.

Walker Furniture says Gaddi’s letter beat more than 400 other letters that were submitted for this year’s contest.
