Father and son suspected in beating death outside convenience store indicted
LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) —
A father and son suspected in the beating death of a man near a convenience store in December were indicted this morning by a Clark County grand jury.
Fili Fagaima, 52, and Aaron Makuakane, 19, each face one count of conspiracy to commit murder and murder with a deadly weapon in the death of Sean Witkowski, 31.
The attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 9 outside a 7-Eleven on 815 E. Twain Ave., near Swenson Street, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report. Witnesses said Witkowski and a friend had just finished playing video poker when the store clerk, later identified as Pakulani Makuakane, 44, told them to leave if they weren’t playing.
The friend said they were trying to plead their case when Pakulani Makuakane called Fagaima, her husband, and said that she was being threatened by Witkowski. They left the store but returned near the area a short time later when Witkowski was struck by a pipe, beaten and kicked.
The suspects later fled to a nearby apartment complex.
Witkowski was transported to Sunrise Trauma and died from his injuries Dec. 15.
Pakulani Makuakane was arrested in April on the same charges; her case remains in Clark County Justice Court.
Fagaima and Aaron Makuakane are being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. They are scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. May 8 at the Regional Justice Center.
