An abandoned apartment complex in downtown Las Vegas went up in flames Friday morning.

The fire started around 1:30 a.m. oon Utah Avenue, near Las Vegas and Charleston boulevards.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue says the fire started in an alley nearby but spread to the back wall of the building, then through to the roof.

Fire crews extended ladders and poured water onto the roof of the building.

As the fire grew, fire crews set up defensive operations. A second alarm was struck and a second ladder was raised.

It took Las Vegas Fire and Rescue until around 4:15 a.m. to put out most of the fire, but hotspots remained after 5:30 a.m.

Footage from the scene provided on Las Vegas Fire and Rescue's Twitter feed shows the two-story building completely burned out.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. No injuries have yet been reported.
