Firefighters battled fires at two vacant residences that were just a few blocks away from each other Thursday morning, but officials say the fires were unrelated.

An attic fire in a vacant home near Ogden and Eastern brought fire crews to the area after being dispatched at 10:25 Thursday morning. Crews extinguished the fire in just 10 minutes, but recieved a call at 10:35 about a separate fire at a boarded-up apartment near Sunrise and Eastern, about a third of a mile away.

Firefighters responded to the second fire and found it was outside the building, but started to burn the outside wall. The fire did not get inside the building.

The cause of the house fire is undetermined, and officials estimate it caused $25,000 in damage.

Officials believe the fire at the vacant apartment was caused by squatters. The damage to the building was minimal.

There were no injuries reported in either incident.
