Man who survived attack that left his wife and daughter dead takes the stand during trial
LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) —
Haunting testimony was given on Thursday from the man who survived a vicious beating in an attack that left his wife and 10-year-old daughter dead.
Arturo Martinez spoke in halting sentences during the trial of Bryan Clay.
Martinez says he fell asleep on the couch watching TV. He woke up feeling like he was falling and discovered a house of horrors.
It all goes back to April 2012. The family got home very late from a friend's house and everyone but Martinez went to bed, including his wife Yadira, daughter Karla, and his two sons.
Martinez says he woke up and found Yadira and Karla dead, covered in blood. His sons were not hurt.
He says he didn't realize it at the time but he too was critically injured, suffering multiple head injuries.
He tried to speak to his boys but couldn't.
Martinez ended up needing months of speech and physical therapy.
Prosecutors say Clay broke into the house and committed the acts with a hammer.
Also during Thursday's trial, the defense asked for a mistrial after graphic autopsy photos were shown to the jury. That motion was denied.
The case will continue on Friday.
