Metro police dog attacked during search

LAS VEGAS -- Metro police shot and killed a dog that attacked one of their K-9's Friday morning.

Police were responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle near Charleston and Clayton.

When they got to the location of the vehicle in the 100 block of Lailani Street, a man and woman ran away. The woman was caught and as police were searching for the man when two dogs came out and one attacked the K-9 police dog.

Metro says officers hit the dog with their batons, but the pit bull kept attacking so they shot it.

The officer drove the dog and its owner to the vet where the dog died.

The police dog was treated for its injuries.
