Motorcycle rider in critical condition after striking car near Sahara and Maryland Parkway

A motorcycle rider is in critical condition after police say he crashed into a car on Tuesday afternoon. The accident took place at 5:46 p.m.

The rider, identified by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as 27-year-old Christopher Castellanos, was reportedly speeding on East Sahara Avenue when he ran into a 2008 Hyundai Accent that was making a left turn into an apartment complex.

Castellanos was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the road. The Hyundai spun into a retaining wall.

Castellanos was sent to Sunrise hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Hyundai, 68-year-old Diane Christensen, received minor injuries.

LVMPD reports that Castellanos did not appear to be impaired. The crash is still under investigation.
