POLICE: Suicidal man hospitalized after pointing gun at officers
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
A man who the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says was suicidal is in the hospital in stable but serious condition after police say he pointed a gun at officers.
LVMPD received a call about a suicidal man from family members at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. When officers arrived at the home near Grand Canyon Drive and Cheyenne Avenue, they began speaking with family members outside the house.
That's when the man walked out of the house with a gun.
The man reportedly aimed his gun at police, prompting the officers to open fire on him. An unknown number of shots were fired, and the man retreated back into the house.
Officers followed the man inside, where he was found lying on the ground with his gun lying next to him, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
Police say they do not know whether the man shot himself, or if he was struck by officers' gunfire.
