Pedestrian killed by suspected drunk driver near Lake Mead and Martin Luther King
LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) —
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has arrested 59-year-old Mattie Harris after they say Harris hit and killed a pedestrian at 9:38 Wednesday night.
Police suspect that Harris was under the influence of alcohol when they struck a man who was crossing W. Lake Mead Blvd just west of Martin Luther King Blvd.
The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 57-year-old Duane Rideout of Las Vegas. His official cause of death was blunt force injuries and the manner was ruled an accident.
Emergency crews determined that the pedestrian died at the scene. Police say the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk at the time he was hit.
This marks the 84th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2017.
