Police are investigating the discovery of two bodies found in an apartment southeast of downtown Las Vegas.

Neighbors had reported a strong odor coming from the apartment on the 1700 block of Karen Avenue, near Maryland Parkway and East Sahara Avenue, according to Lt. Grant Rogers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

A building official entered and found a deceased woman, left and called the Fire Department. A second body was found, and police were called just before 5 p.m.

The bodies are in a decomposition phase and have been in the apartment for a least one and possibly two weeks. The power was not on in the apartment, and conditions were ā€œsuper hot,ā€ Rogers said.

The Clark County coroner has been summoned.
