A man was taken into custody after police say he pulled a firearm on an off-duty officer Sunday evening as he and his family exited church.

The incident began around 6 p.m. outside St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road near South Eastern Avenue, according to Lt. Patricia Spencer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

As the officer left the services with his wife and child, the suspect pulled up in a pick-up truck and revved his engine. The officer said he thought the suspect initially acted like he knew him. When he approached the vehicle, the suspect pointed the firearm at him and his family.

The officer ushered his family to their vehicle, turned back to the suspect and identified himself to the suspect. Other LVMPD units arrived at that time and placed the suspect in custody.

No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

The suspect is not cooperating with the investigation, Spencer said.
