Road work watch: U.S. 95 SB exit to Rancho closes tonight; other closures

The U.S. 95 southbound ramp to Rancho Drive will close Sunday evening and not re-open until mid-September. (NDOT graphic)

Prepare for road delays or plan ahead for alternate routes -- the normal mode for Las Vegas Valley motorists this summer.

The summer road construction effort continues in several areas this week. Some projects to be aware of:

U.S. 95 SOUTHBOUND EXT TO RANCHO DRIVE

The Nevada Department of Transportation will close the southbound U.S. Highway 95 exit to Rancho Drive in Las Vegas beginning at 9 tonight until mid-September.

The closure is required to create a double right hand turn onto Rancho Drive as part of Project Neon, which is a nearly $1 billion, 3.7-mile-long Interstate 15 widening from the Spaghetti Bowl interchange to Sahara Avenue.

The suggested detour calls for exiting at Martin Luther King Boulevard, traveling north to Bonanza Road westbound in order to access Rancho Drive. Check the Project Neon website, NDOTProjectNeon.com, or Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter pages (@NDOTProjectNeon) for up to date information. There is also a hotline available at: 702-293-NEON (6366).

PRELIMINARY WORK IN HENDERSON ON BOULDER CITY BYPASS FOR INTERSTATE 11

NDOT will be installing portable precast concrete barrier rails along the right shoulder of northbound U.S. Highway 93 between the Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino and U.S. Highway 95 onramp in Henderson nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., starting Monday evening and finishing Thursday, resulting in alternating lane restrictions.

The work is part of the $83 million, 2.5-mile-long first phase of the Interstate 11 Boulder City Bypass, which broke ground in April 2015. Motorists should use caution while travelling through the work zone, heed construction signage and take alternate routes, if possible. For current road information go to: nvroads.com
