11:05 A.M. FRIDAY UPDATE:

Assistant Clark County Sheriff Tom Roberts will hold a news conference on the shooting at 1 p.m. Friday.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A suspect involved in a shootout with police officers Tuesday died of a bullet fired by an officer, not from a suicide.

The Clark County coroner's office ruled Friday that 25-year-old Miguel Salas died of a gunshot wound to he head and ruled the death a homicide.

Initial reports were that Salas killed himself during the shootout about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of West Tompkins Avenue.

Officer Richard Nelson, 33, an eight-year veteran of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was involved in the shooting. He has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
