The NBA Summer League is launching a junior program in Las Vegas this spring.

The Summer League Jr. NBA 7th- and 8th-grade basketball league will launch in the USA at the Tarkanian Sports Facility in Las Vegas.

Summer League Jr. NBA will be made up of 16 teams, including eight girls' teams and eight boys' teams, featuring student-athletes from local middle schools.

The students that were selected to participate in an evaluation tryout were nominated by school coaches and administrators. All players must meet and maintain grade and conduct requirements.

Those selected then participated in the tryout where over 200 boys and girls competed for the available spots in the 16 teams.

Game play will begin on April 21 with all games played on Friday evenings.

"The NBA Summer League has been an exciting addition to the community for over thirteen years and I'm excited to welcome the Summer League Jr. NBA to Clark County, as well. This is a great opportunity for kids in our community to participate," said County Commissioner Chair Steve Sisolak, who will perform the honorary ball toss and the welcoming of the new league.

The championship teams will be honored during a halftime at the NBA Summer League that is taking place from July 7-17 at the Thomas and Mack Center and Cox Pavilion.

Players will also be given tickets to attend the NBA Summer League Championship game on July 17.

Those who attended the tryout and were not selected will be invited to attend an elite basketball clinic hosted by Summer League Jr. NBA and NBA Retired Players Association.
