Suspects arrested after young man was fatally shot in his driveway
LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) —
Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department say the man who died in his driveway from gunshot wounds was Gabriel Valenzuela.
Kyomi Kane lives across the street and says she heard four to five gunshots and then a few minutes later, she heard screams. She ran outside to see what was going on and that's when she saw her neighbor, Valenzuela, outside bleeding.
A police report identifies 18-year-old De’mario Lofton-Robinson as a suspect in this murder. A second suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Raekwon Robertson and a third suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Devontae Wheeler. A fourth suspect, a juvenile, has not yet been identified.
Neighbors say they found Valenzuela after the shooting happened.
"To see my neighbor laying on the ground so close to me and he was just lifeless he wasn't moving," said Kane.
But that's not all — according to the arrest report, Loften-Robinson confessed to police he wanted to rob Valenzuela in front of his home.
Witnesses said they saw a group of men running from the scene. The suspect also told police he aimed a .45 caliber handgun at Valenzuela's chest and fired a round. Officers found three .45 caliber casings along with another .22 long rifle casing near the scene.
Now, neighbors want to protect themselves from crime in their neighborhood.
"My wife's talking about putting up cameras,” said John Van Patten said.
