Suspect in deadly shooting aboard RTC bus makes initial court appearance

The man suspected in a deadly shooting aboard an RTC bus on the Las Vegas Strip appeared in court this morning at the Regional Justice Center.

Rolando Cardenas, 55, faces eight felony counts, including murder and attempted murder. Judge Cynthia Cruz appointed a public defender for Cruz. Bail has not been set.

Gary Breitling, 57, of Sidney, Mont., died in the shooting Saturday near the Cosmopolitan on Saturday afternoon. A second victim, who was shot in the stomach, survived his injuries.

Cardenas engaged in four-hour standoff with police, barricading himself inside the bus until he surrendered himself to police.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report, Cardenas told police that he felt threatened by the passengers who sat next to him.

Cardenas is scheduled to return to court April 27.
