“It's very exciting,” said Jon Merrill, defenseman for the Golden Knights. “[We’re] pumped to get out in front of the fans at T-Mobile.”

There’s high energy as the Vegas Golden Knights practice ahead of their series against San Jose.

“I think they're an unbelievable team,” said Golden Knights forward Alex Tuch, referring to the San Jose Sharks. “Got a lot of fire power.”

The Sharks are a team the Knights beat three times during the regular season. But this is playoffs, and players know the stakes are higher than ever.

“Some of them have played together for a while,” Merrill said. “They're well coached. Match up well against us.”

The Knights are coming off their longest break of the season -- Nine days since sweeping the LA Kings in round one.

“For me, it seems like a month since we played,” said coach Gerard Gallant.

But in the locker room, there’s a lot of confidence from a team no one saw coming.

“When you get the call in June saying you're going to Vegas, you don't know what to expect,” said Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, left winger. “It's been more than I expected.”

Meanwhile, out on Toshiba Plaza, a lone Sharks fan arrives early. Kyle Conley flew in from San Jose on a whim. He has no ticket, but he'll be watching.

Good job Knights you made it to your first time, but it's also going to be your first time loss,” said Conley.

Finding out what happens in Vegas is Golden.

“This is one of the loudest buildings in the league, if not THE loudest,” said Merrill. “Definitely gets us going.”
