WATCH: Off-duty officer's memorial brings tears and laughter

Tears ran down faces as Officer Charleston Hartfield was remembered at a memorial service. His closest colleagues shared memories of him at work and his most cherished moments with his family.

"I could tell he was a leader among men," one officer said.

Hartfield leaves behind his high school sweetheart and two children.

Hundreds watched and listened to stories about Hartfield who is a veteran of the military and police force. His nickname was Captain America because he inspired others with his accomplishments.

"We love you and we pray for you and we will always be here for you," said another speaker.

Hartfield recently wrote a book called "Memoirs of a Public Servant".
