Woman killed after being struck by Clark County vehicle near Eastern and Warm Springs

A woman who was struck and injured by a Clark County vehicle Tuesday morning in the southern Las Vegas valley has died.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 73-year-old Penny Schiestel of Henderson. Her official cause of death was multiple injuries from a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian and the manner was ruled an accident.

The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. south of the intersection of South Eastern Avenue and East Warm Springs Road, according to Sgt. Jeff Clark of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators say the victim was jaywalking behind the parked vehicle when the driver started the truck and put it in reverse, striking her.

The victim was transported to Sunrise Hospital and died just after 1 p.m.

Eastern was closed in both directions from Warm Springs to Eldorado Lane for the investigation.

County spokesman Dan Kulin released this statement:

"We are aware of the terrible accident that occurred today. Our deepest condolences are with the family of the woman who passed away ... The driver of the vehicle and the County are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation into this incident."
