The financial high times for Nevada continues because of marijuana sales.

October marked the biggest month for sales since Nevada started selling recreational pot earlier this summer.

Melissa Garcia has witnessed a nonstop flow of cannabis customers over the past six months at The Dispensary NV located near Russell Road and Decatur.

“We've just seen a huge influx of the number of people coming to try marijuana for the first time,” said Garcia.

New numbers from Nevada’s taxation department tracked nearly $38 million in sales in October alone – that’s the biggest month for the Silver State since recreational sales started back in July.

“It’s just upward and onward for the cannabis industry,” said cannabis consultant Jason Sturtsman, adding that Nevada’s marijuana industry has already created more than 6,000 jobs and continues to grow.

Surging sales are also helping to fill the state’s tax coffers. However, as business booms, concerns continue over the federal government and whether a crackdown on state-sponsored pot programs could be coming.

“It's part of our state budget it would be very helpful to know where the federal government is coming from with regard to enforcement,” Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval told News 3.

As for Garcia and her team of budtenders, they’re gearing up to ride the “green rush” straight into the New Year.

“We've expanded on space, we've expanded on locations -- we're working on cultivation. We're looking to go as big as marijuana goes here basically,” said Garcia.

When California starts its recreational pot program on January 1, 2018 it will be the biggest legal marijuana market in the country.

However, industry insiders insist Las Vegas will continue to be a cannabis capital considering its international appeal and all of its conventions and clubs.
