Teen donates hair to Locks of Love
LAS VEGAS (KSNV NEWS3LV) —
On Sept. 10, Allison Stone, 15, was honored by Community Associations Institute Nevada during its second annual Volunteer Luncheon for Ordinary People Extraordinary Measures awards.
Stone has established a personal tradition of growing her hair so it can be cut off to donate to Locks of Love. At her age, she has already donated three times taking her about three years to grow her hair to the required length of 10 inches which is what is needed to create a wig.
Allison cut her hair off live on our show to support Locks of Love.
Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 21 in the United States and Canada suffering from hair loss.
Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.
The prostheses provided help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
