Las Vegas Club sold to owners of The D, Golden Gate

LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) - The owners of The D and Golden Gate have added to their downtown casino portfolio.

The Las Vegas Club has been sold to 18 Fremont Street Acquisition LLC, a company owned by Derek and Greg Stevens.

"It is clear that the sale of the property provides a greater opportunity for the future of the company, its staff and the Fremont Street neighborhood," said Jonathan Jossel, CEO of PlayLV and the Plaza Hotel & Casino, in a statement released this morning.

"Tamares and PlayLV will focus their efforts on their signature downtown property, the Plaza Hotel & Casino, and we look forward to welcoming many members of the Las Vegas Club staff to the Plaza team in the coming weeks."

According to Wikipedia, The Las Vegas Club, which opened in 1930, installed the first neon sign on a hotel gambling establishment in 1931.

The property has been in decline in recent years, closing its hotel rooms two years ago.

The Las Vegas Club will close for renovations, but that date has not been announced.

In 2013, Derek Stevens bid and bought the old Clark County Courthouse for $10 million. The 2.76 acres of land is bordered by Third Street on the east, Casino Center Boulevard on the west, and Carson and Bridger Avenues to the north and south.
