Man convicted in airman's murder gets life without parole

LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) - The man convicted in the shooting death of a Nellis Air Force Base staff sergeant was sentenced this afternoon to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Michael Rodriguez, 34, also will not be allowed to appeal his sentence. He was found guilty on Friday for the December 2010 murder of Nathan Paet. Prosecutors said Rodriguez was having an affair with the victim's wife, and the couple wanted Paet out of the way.

There was no victim impact statement in court today. Rodriguez also did not attend the hearing.

Jurors asked attorneys about Rodriguez's criminal history.

Paet's wife, Michelle, is accused of alerting Rodriguez when her husband was leaving the house.

Two co-defendants, Jessica Ashley and Corry Hawkins, also await trial.
