4.2 magnitude earthquake reported in Mojave Desert

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake was reported Wednesday afternoon in the Mojave Desert, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake shook at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, about 58 miles north of Barstow, California.

A ShakeMap from the USGS showed the earthquake could be felt in Death Valley and the Fort Irwin area.

A 3.7 magnitude quake was reported just a few minutes later at 2:10 p.m. at the same location.

There have been no immediate reports of damage.
