Authorities are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide reported Thursday at a south valley apartment, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police spokesman.

Officer Larry Hadfield said officers responded to a complex in the 7600 block of S. Rainbow Boulevard, near Warm Springs Road.

The shooting was reported just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday, and both the man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement released Friday, police said the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Diosdan Benitez-Cruz, was dating and living with the victim.

Evidence indicates Benitez-Cruz shot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself, according to LVMPD.

The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 20-year-old Claudia Cordero-Garcia.
