Armed, suicidal domestic violence suspect surrenders after 3 hours at Lake Mead

2:07 P.M. UPDATE:

The suspect has been taken into custody, says Metro.

In an open-desert standoff of nearly three hours, Las Vegas police were working Sunday to take a wanted suicidal man into custody.

Lt. Grant Rogers said a man wanted for a domestic-related incident was found about 11 a.m. armed with a handgun in a desert area near Lake Mead.

Rogers called the incident an open field barricade because the man was “not in a residence and he’s not in his car, but he’s standing next to his car and he’s armed.”

As of 2 p.m., Rogers said officers were trying to talk to the man and take him into custody.

Several Metro units and a helicopter were involved.
