A school bus collided with a truck south of Needles this afternoon, injuring some high school volleyball players and temporarily trapping the bus driver.

The collision was around 12:50 p.m. on Thursday and involved a volleyball team from Buckeye, Ariz.,

The collision occurred on U.S. 95 and Airport Road near the Needles Airport south of the community on the California side of the state line, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Joseph Medina.

Four students were driven to the hospital while one was flown by helicopter. Another eight complained of pain, but were not transported, according to CHP Officer Joseph Medina.

San Bernardino County firefighters extricated the bus driver. No fire was reported.

The team was headed to Bullhead City, Ariz., to play a 5 p.m. match against Mohave High School.

U.S. 95 is expected to be closed in both directions until about 3:30 p.m.
