A car apparently trying to flee a traffic stop ran a red light and got into a crash with several other cars near McCarran International Airport just after midnight Friday, police say.

A motorcycle officer tried to pull over a car at Russell and Paradise roads, but the car did not stop, heading north, according to Lt. Joshua Martinez with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

The officer did not pursue, but he could see the car run a red light at Tropicana Avenue, getting into a crash with several other cars.

One car involved caught fire, and the fire department had to respond, Martinez said. Several people were taken to a hospital for treatment, but they are expected to survive.

The driver who ran the red light is being investigated for impairment.
