Carjacking leads to exchange of gunfire in northeast valley, suspect at large

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a carjacking turned shooting Tuesday night, Feb. 5, in the northeast valley.

According to Lt. Holmes, the incident was reported around 4:45 p.m. at Butternut Lane and Walnut Road.

Initial reports suggest that a suspect was trying to steal a vehicle when a witness pulled out a gun and began firing.

The suspect and witness exchanged gunfire, but the suspect managed to get in the vehicle and drive away.

Another witness began firing at the suspect, and the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle and fled the scene.

Lt. Holmes says no one has been injured in the incident and the stolen vehicle was recovered near the scene.

The suspect is still on the loose, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
