Crook stealing downtown home surveillance camera gives police a good photo of himself

A thief pulling out a surveillance camera ends up giving police a good look at his face. Detectives are now on the lookout for the suspect and two others accused of trying to break into a Downtown Las Vegas home.

The homeowner did not want to show her face, but she said, “I was surprised they were not bright enough to realize that, when they looked into the camera to steal it, I had their picture.”

Surveillance cameras caught this clear shot of one of the burglary suspects. It shows him right before he stole the mounted camera by pulling it from the wall. The victim tells us the three thieves decided to kick in the back door of her home.

“They tried to break down a door, and once they broke it open the alarm went off,” the homeowner said. “They ran.”

Neighbors in the area immediately called 911 after hearing the alarm go off. The homeowner tells us police rushed to her home off of South 6th Street and and Oakey Boulevard.

“I made it hard for them to get in my house,” the homeowner said.

Chris Cox, who lives in the downtown community, says he’s grateful for all the attentive neighbors keeping an eye out.

“I love being in this part of town, because it has character,” Cox said. “You are close to everything and there’s more of a sense of a neighborhood community than anywhere else I lived.”

The homeowner who was affected hopes these men are caught before they try it again.

“I hope they catch them because I’ve been told there’s been more than this attempt to break into a house in my neighborhood,” the homeowner said.
