A 32-year-old man was arrested after leaving the scene of a deadly crash Monday morning in the northeast valley, according to authorities.

A spokesman for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed at least one person was killed in a crash reported at 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of E. Lake Mead Boulevard and Mt. Hood Street.

In a statement released later Monday, LVMPD said they learned a red 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche was heading west on Lake Mead approaching Mt. Hood when it ran a red light, hitting a gray 1989 Toyota Tacoma that was heading south.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as a 59-year-old Las Vegas man, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to LVMPD, the driver of the Chevrolet left the scene but later surrendered to police.

That driver, identified as Alberto Banuelos, was arrested and booked into Clark County Detention Center. Jail records indicate he faces charges of DUI resulting in death and duty to stop at the scene of an accident.
