Motorcyclist hit and killed near Craig, Durango
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
UPDATE, Dec. 14 | The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the motorcyclist killed as 33-year-old Pedro Antonio Rodriguez Gonzalez of Las Vegas.
Gonzalez died from multiple blunt force injuries, and his death has been officially ruled an accident, according to the coroner's office.
ORIGINAL | The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a crash near West Craig Road and Durango Drive.
The crash was reported on Thursday afternoon around 2:27 p.m. on Craig Road and Al Carrison Street.
Detectives say Caterpillar 420F2 Backhoe was traveling northbound on Al Carrison Street across the intersection with Craig Road. A 2014 Ducati 1199 was traveling westbound on Craig Road at an excessive rate of speed, according to multiple witnesses’. The rider and motorcycle impacted the “backhoe boom” which is on the rear of the Caterpillar. The motorcyclist was ejected, and the Ducati overturned onto its side, sliding for approximately 250 feet westbound on Craig Road.
The motorcyclist died at the scene.
The operator of the Caterpillar remained at the collision scene and did not display any signs of impairment.
The motorcyclist's death is the 130th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2018.
This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
