LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Recycling is done with the best of intentions.
We toss recyclables into a curbside can and send them on their way.
However, more often than not, we're doing it wrong.
In fact, about 30% of what ends up at the Republic Services recycling center should never have been sent there.

So what does that mean?
Employees spend time sorting the good from the bad.
Some items actually get tangled in the equipment, similar to hair in a vacuum cleaner.
"The flexible plastics we have are actually the biggest problem. Think grocery bags, bubble wrap, produce bags, those flexible malleable bags and wrappers should never be placed in the recycling bin", says Jeremy Walters with Republic Services.
Some of the biggest recycling clients in town are going above and beyond to reduce waste in the landfill.
