Ex-felon arrested in Sept. 2 fatal shooting near Bruce & Cartier in North Las Vegas

Detectives have arrested a suspect in connection to the homicide that occurred on Sunday near Cartier Avenue and Bruce Street.

Friday afternoon, detectives located and arrested 31-year-old Alonzo Serrano in the 3300 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard, for the shooting death of North Las Vegas resident Jaime Alejandro Ayala, 29.

Serrano was booked for murder with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person (ex-felon) at the Las Vegas City Jail.

About 5:10 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the intersection of Cartier Avenue and Bruce Street in reference to a man down in the roadway. Officer located the man laying in the street with apparent gunshot wounds. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the man deceased on scene.

The initial investigation indicates Ayala was shot multiple times near the intersection by the sidewalk. A suspect was gone on police arrival.

The Clark County coroner's office will release the identity of the decedent, and cause and manner of death, after notification to next of kin.
