Exotic animal caught near Sahara and Decatur

A wild animal on the loose in the west valley caused much speculation and chase for those who encountered it.

According to Dan Kulin, a representative with Clark County, a Patagonian mara was captured by Clark County Animal Control officers.

The rabbit-like animal native to South America was captured around 3 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot near the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.

The animal was brought to the county's animal shelter at the Animal Foundation.

At this time, officials do not know who owns the animal.
