Various discounted or free New Year’s Eve promotions are available for Las Vegas locals and visitors to use over the holiday weekend to not drive impaired on the streets and highways.

Las Vegas attorney, Sam Ryan Heidari, owner of the Heidari Law Firm is offering a free Uber or Lyft ride home to those who need it from 9 p.m. Dec. 31, 2022 to 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2023. It’s available to anyone who’s intoxicated whether on the Strip or at a house party in the valley. All riders need to do is call 702-999-7777. It’s part of an effort to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roads.

“We see a lot of wrongful death and serious injuries that are caused by the hit-and-run accidents or the drunk drivers, and that results in havoc and misery for the families,” Heidari said. “What money can compensate the death of the person? Nothing. So, it's better to prevent this.”

It’s the first year Heidari, who handles personal injury in Nevada and California as well as wrongful deaths, is offering the promotion. He plans to have roughly five people taking phone calls and scheduling rides. This follows the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reporting officers arrested 25 drivers for impairment while patrolling during the 2021 New Year’s Eve.

He said it’s also a way to give back to the community and prevent people getting behind the wheel.

“As long as it's in Clark County and the person needs it,” he said. “We are not going to ask questions, that's not the proper way because if they are drunk and they cannot drive, it's better not to drive."

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is also continuing its tradition of offering free rides on all transit routes starting at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 9 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

"it's just really convenient,” Sue Christiansen, spokesperson for the RTC said. “You don't have to schedule a ride; you just get on and go. This goes into your neighborhoods into your communities nearby and then of course, downtown, where there's a lot of fun happening"

Transit riders can board any bus on the RTC’s 39 routes without purchasing a pass or presenting fare.

The free rides include transit service on major streets throughout the valley, with direct access to and from the Las Vegas Strip. For complete detour and route details, visit rtcsnv.com/NewYears or download the RTC mobile app, available for Android and iPhone.

“We see really good ridership on New Year's Eve,” Christiansen said. “Every year 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. when it's free, people are hopping on and off, especially towards downtown and the Strip where it gets quite busy. "

Another option is a discounted Lyft code for New Year’s weekend, starting Friday, Dec. 30, 2022 at 6 p.m. through Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 at 6 a.m.

Riders who use the code “NYESAFERIDE22” will receive a $5.00 discount on one ride when used during that time frame. Rides are valid in Southern Nevada (Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson).
