A 16-year-old Las Vegas High School student is being remembered as a funny guy who loved life.

Friends who knew Jovanni Grimes as "Geo" say he was the teen shot and killed Thursday night nearby Lewis Family Park.

Odavia Umira was a friend of his.

"I’m really shocked. He was a young boy. He was in high school. He still had his life to live and it happened in the neighborhood. It's kind of crazy", said Umira.

Police say just after 7:30 p.m. they received calls of shots fired at a park off near Sahara and Hollywood.

Officers found Grimes dead on the street. Another teen told police he and Grimes got into a fight with two other boys.

One of the suspects fired and hit Grimes in the face.

Natasha Harris was a friend of the murder victim.

"I feel it's just sad because people are losing their life basically for nothing."

Harris says she has no idea why anyone would murder him.

Police say they do not have the reason for the shooting.

Detectives say a gun was fired by either Grimes or his friend. Even if that is the case, Harris says the other teens responsible for Grimes' death need to be arrested.

Harris said, "I think it's very important because what if it happens again."

Grimes' friends say a great soul was taken away.

Umira said, "He was always goofy. You could never have a bad vibe around him. A lot of people are going to remember him like that."

Police say a dark colored Toyota or Honda car was seen leaving the shooting scene.

Officers urge anyone with information about this shooting to call police at 702-385-5555.
