Travel in the south valley should get easier in the future near future. NDOT is officially break ground on the new Starr Avenue Interchange this morning.

The interchange will help alleviate future travel congestion.

The groundbreaking for the I-15/Starr Avenue interchange will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday. It marks the beginning of a $34 million dollar project that's expected to reduce congestion on I-15 and the surrounding local streets.

The project is along the I-15 one mile south of Cactus and just north of St. Rose Parkway. It will complete construction of Starr Avenue between Las Vegas Boulevard to the east and Dean Martin Drive to the west while building an I-15 bridge over Starr Avenue.

Once open, the interchange will also feature new bike lanes, crosswalks, traffic signals, and sidewalks.

The interchange is set to open spring of 2018, and with a new Costco being built and the Raiders practice facility potentially being built this will help with traffic.
