Henderson man dies while trying to save his dog at San Diego beach
SAN DIEGO, Calif. —
A Henderson man is dead after being slammed into rocks by waves trying to save his dog at a San Diego beach earlier this week.
San Diego first responders say waves swept 64-year-old Gregg Owens away.
Bystanders were able to save the dog but could not get Owens out of the water in time.
Officials say waves at the particular beach can reach up to 14 feet high.
Owens was a former first responder himself, working 11 years as a paramedic in Virginia.
