Hiker awake, breathing after 40-foot fall off Red Rock cliff

A hiker survived a 40-foot fall off a cliff on a hiking trail at Red Rock National Recreation Area late Sunday morning.

The fall was reported about 11:15 a.m. on the Calico 2 Tanks trail.

He was reported awake and breathing after the fall and was being transported by Mercy Air after being assisted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search & Rescue unit.
