LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Protesters gathered in Las Vegas for the fifth day in a row Monday, June 1, to demonstrate against the killing of George Floyd in police custody.
The protest had been planned for 7:00 p.m. outside the Trump International Hotel off of the Las Vegas Strip, but protesters were told to move along by police and eventually, the group began making their way south on the Strip.
Around 8:30 p.m., the group, numbering in the hundreds, if not thousands, began moving downtown.
Las Vegas police mostly monitored and corralled the large group.

Around 9:30 p.m., the group was stopped at Lewis Avenue and 3rd Street, roughly a block away from the Clark County Detention Center.
Viewer video, as well as News 3 cameras on the ground and in the air, captured organized and peaceful demonstrators chanting calls like “no justice, no peace.”
Around 9:45 p.m., protesters gathered outside the Clark County Detention Center wither riot police and at least dozens of police officers standing by.
Shortly after, protesters moved to the Fremont East Entertainment District.
Around 11:10 p.m., tear gas could be seen being used on remaining protesters at Las Vegas Boulevard and Clark Avenue.
Earlier on Monday, many businesses and locals helped clean up the area after a tumultuous weekend of protests, looting and vandalism.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department sent out clarification to the press Monday afternoon regarding the type of force it used in dispersing crowds.
“There have been erroneous reports that the LVMPD has been using rubber bullets on protesters who have not been complying with dispersal orders and who have been engaged in violent acts such as throwing rocks and other objects intended to cause injury,” the department wrote. “The LVMPD uses a projectile containing an active payload of CS irritant powder. This is a non-lethal projectile made with a thin plastic that breaks upon contact.”
According to LVMPD, more than 250 arrests were made over the weekend and at least 13 officers suffered injuries.
