Intoxicated student with gun arrested at Green Valley High School
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
The first day of school started with a scare at Green Valley High School in Henderson.
According to CCSD Police Chief Jim Kesta, school officials noticed that a 16-year-old student appeared to be under the influence of either alcohol or drugs on Monday morning. After making contact with the student, it was found that he was in possession of a 9mm firearm.
It is unclear whether the student intended on using the gun.
“All of our children at Green Valley High School are safe,” CCSD Superintendent Jesus Jara said.
Jara credits much of the students safety on the first day of school to the staff’s quick thinking.
“Quick action by our staff, swift action found there was a student,” he said. “Then, was apprehended, and an investigation for a weapon on campus [began].”
Moving forward, the superintendent wants to remind everyone, both students and staff, that if they see something suspicious, to say something right away.
